Whenever wherever festival

Body Arts Laboratory (BAL), the first artists-run organization for dance artists in Tokyo was founded in 2009 by Kota Yamazaki, for which Yamazaki continues to serve as a director. BAL organizes the Whenever Wherever Festival (wwfes) with the intention of creating a platform where body-based artists from different disciplines and backgrounds can meet, exchange and converse.  The festival’s various experimental programs curated, proposed and conducted by artists are presented in flexible and various formats. These programs include experimental laboratories, workshops, performances, installations, and round table discussions that facilitate artists’ process-oriented practices and dialogues among artists and with a public.

Although the festival is designed for local artists, it is open to artists from abroad, who are interested in researching and meeting with Japanese artists.
